Super Bowl postgame celebration in New Orleans – part 1 of 2

Hell Freezes Over

The New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl.  Hell froze over.  Pigs flew.  A huge party started in New Orleans.

Many from around the world have seen pictures of the celebrations on Bourbon Street, but for many, that was all that they saw.  Most of the images shown here are of action away from Bourbon Street, though many of the people shown were likely destined for that crammed, iconic street.

Riverbound traffic on Canal Street (towards the French Quarter) was very thick, full of elated residents honking horns, hanging out of windows, and cheering.

Strangers of all ethnicities and social classes hugged each other in what was and remains a historic local civic event.

The “SUE ME” seen on the car in the below picture is in reference to a decision made by the NFL to send cease and desist letters to local merchants selling merchandise with the “Who Dat” chant on it.

This decision drew considerable ire among locals, and that can bee seen in the “Screw Dat” signs shown by some fans in the recent “Buddy and Bobby’s Brawds” parade that was reported recently in the NOLA Post.

Simply being happy for the Saints apparently was not enough involvement in the game for the man below.

Support for the Saints is also shown at the old Saenger Theater building.

All images in this article are of action on Canal Street after the game.  Most of the images in part 2 (to come later this week) were also taken on Canal Street.
